This project has been conceptualized and implemented by Charlie Young and Laurie Oscar Wynne, two British volunteers working with Alliance for African Women Initiative (AFAWI). After observing local school aged children playing every day outside the office, questions were raised about universal access to education in Ghana. Access to education for poor families in Ghana is a prevalent problem despite free primary and junior education policy. This is due to the hidden costs involved with sending a child to school; purchase of uniforms, school books, bag, shoes, food and transport. The purchase of these essentials is often too much for families living in poverty resulting in blocked access to education for these children, and as such the cycle of poverty continues with little or no opportunities arising for people with no education. It is with these barriers in mind that `The Kids’ Fund’ has been initialized.
