Our Projects

AFAWI has undertaken a number of development projects over the years. Some of these have centered on youth and women empowerment, community and human resource development. Among the number of projects taken by us include a Malaria Control Project and a programme aimed at curbing Discrimination and Stigmatization of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).

What We Do

We in AFAWI believe that each one of us is either part of the problem or the solution, therefore collaboration with other stakeholders who in their own way championing sound education for all, Women/Youth empowerment and development, HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health, Community/Rural Development, Advocating Women and Human Rights

Who We Are

Founded in 2005 and registered in 2006, Alliance for African Women Initiative (AFAWI) is a development oriented non- profit, non sectarian, non governmental organization that seeks to ensure equitable development for both rural inhabitants and poor urban dwellers, especially women and children.

 

Youth Development: AFAWI Teen Club

Teen ClubAFAWI believes that educating the youth in the community will help foster their growth into responsible adults and will empower them to make better choices in life. As such, the organization launched a Teen Club in January 2008 at Green Hill International School for students in Junior High School (grades 7 to 9). Since March 2010, the club has been based in Taifa Community School.

AFAWI’s Teen Club meets once per week and covers topics such as current events, leadership, health and sexual maturation, characteristics of responsible adults, and media and culture. A group of student executives, elected by members of the Club, confer with teachers and AFAWI volunteers to plan activities for the term. At the end of each school term, AFAWI celebrates the contribution of Club members by hosting an awards ceremony to recognize exceptional students.
