HIV/AIDS: Prevention, Behavior Change Communication, Treatment, Support, and Mitigating the Societal Impacts
Over the years that AFAWI Ghana has worked to secure women's empowerment, the organization has been also mindful of the HIV/AIDS pandemic which has engulfed humanity in recent times.

As such, AFAWI Ghana has made several attempts in joining effort with stakeholders the world over to eradicate this canker and also minimize its effects on several individuals who have been unduly effected; e.g. Persons Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs), etc. No other disease has dramatically highlighted the current disparities and inequities in economic benefits and opportunities as compared to HIV/AIDS.

In view of this, AFAWI initiated a forty (40) member PLWHA support group as a way of creating a platform where challenges forming against such individuals could be discussed and addressed. Collaboration with strategic stakeholders like OICI GHANA and USAID has seen members of our support group benefit tremendously from their monthly packages of educational materials and nutritional food supplements – the “HOPE” Program.

Consequently, the HOPE program has run very successful in all aspects within the past year. The parties involved, (i.e. OICI Ghana/USAID and AFAWI Ghana) have administered the program very well.  Crises counseling, stigma and other relevant issues were some of the educational topics discussed during our meetings. Mr. Noble Ayerakwa and Madam Gladys Damalin, resource persons from OICI Ghana handled these.
