Alliance for African Women Initiative was founded in 2005 and registered in 2006 as a development oriented, not-for-profit, non-sectarian, non-governmental organization.
The Board of Directors
A board of seven Directors run AFAWI. They meet twice a year to discuss progress being made by the organization, our challenges and our plans for the future. Together, they provide the necessary policy direction, administrative oversight, motivation and leadership that keep the organization’s programs, goals and objectives in perspective. All major decisions are made at this level.
The Execultive Council
On a day-to-day basis, AFAWI is run by an Executive Council of six members, voted into office by the General Assembly of the organization with a four-year term of office. The Executive Council consults with and advise the core staff on a daily basis. They serve as the link between the core staff, AFAWI’s group for people living with HIV/AID (PLWHA) and the Board of Directors.
AFAWI is predominantly a women’s organization, with around 40 PLWHA participating in the organization, all of which are women.
